Our Mission
At North City Church in Indianapolis, Indiana, our mission extends beyond our walls to bring wholeness to people and places, echoing Jesus' transformative love throughout the city.
Our evolution from Soma Northwest into North City Church has deepened our resolve under Pastor Jeff Brown's leadership, uniting a diverse congregation in our desire for transformation. This vision is brought to life through the hearts of those who call North City Church home.
We want to connect, serve, and embrace our community with Jesus's love, which has changed us. Our commitment to diversity fuels a culture of genuine fellowship, where every story is heard and every individual is empowered to grow and impact.
Forever Ruled
by Jesus
We are a Jesus-ruled, elder-led, deacon-served, and congregationally-responsible church. This means that Jesus is and will forever be the head of our church. Our elders facilitate the theological vision and spiritual vitality of the church. Our deacons serve and support the congregations in administration, operations, music, and family ministries.

History of North City Church
With the heart of Psalms 77:11-12, we believe it is vital to remember the deeds of the Lord and His wonders of old. Reflecting on our church's history not only honors God's mighty works but also testifies to His ongoing work in our lives and the life of North City Church.
2012
Hope for Indianapolis
SOMA (Midtown) was founded by Lead Pastor Brandon Shields, driven by a vision to see the gospel transform Indianapolis. Pastor Shields established the church in the Broad Ripple neighborhood, setting the foundation for a community deeply rooted in the gospel.
2017
A Vision for Pike Township
Experiencing significant growth and attracting families from across Indianapolis, SOMA Midtown embraced the vision to become a network of neighborhood churches. A thriving missional community on the northwest side led the elders to plant SOMA Northwest in Pike Township, with Pastor Bobby Barbour at the helm, initially gathering at College Park Elementary School.
2020
Rooted in The Community
SOMA Northwest called College Park Elementary home for three years before moving to a permanent location on Georgetown Rd. This move was driven by the desire to establish deeper roots in the community, accommodate continued growth, and expand ministry opportunities.
2023
New Leadership Emerges
After six years of devoted service, Pastor Bobby Barbour felt called to a new form of ministry, prompting the elders to seek his successor. Through trusted relationships, they met Pastor Jeff Brown and his wife, Sarah. A native of Pike Township with a profound desire to see the gospel bring change, Pastor Jeff was installed as the lead pastor in Spring 2023, bringing fresh energy and vision to the congregation.
2024
Draw Yourself In
Under Pastor Jeff's leadership, the church embraced a revitalized mission and vision. After prayer and reflection, SOMA Northwest was rebranded as North City Church, signaling a new era focused on bringing wholeness to people and places. The message "Draw Yourself In" invites everyone to join the community and witness what Jesus is doing at North City Church.
James 4:8
“ Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.”
At North City Church, the powerful motto is 'Draw Yourself In' — an invitation to find your place where gaps may exist or you might feel unseen. This concept is deeply rooted in our belief that engaging with our community and drawing near God invites His presence closer into our lives.
We see our church as a canvas, with the possibility for every individual to contribute their unique strokes, colors, and textures to the broader picture of our faith community. It's the first stroke of your brush on our canvas, signaling your readiness to connect to North City somehow. Let's draw nearer together.
